Daily update 8th June 2020 – I hope you all had a lovely weekend. As it was a more ‘indoor’ weekend weather-wise we started a family table tennis tournament.  I didn’t win on either Saturday or Sunday but it was lots of fun nonetheless!

Online learning

At North Kesteven Academy we believe that the relationships between students and teachers are what inspires both the trust and curiosity needed to drive learning in the classroom.  Having been separated for so long, we now feel it is time for the students to be able to access both live and recorded support from their teachers.  As of this week, NK teachers, at their own discretion, will begin to trial recorded greetings and verbal feedback, recorded lessons that can be accessed anytime and worked though at the student’s own pace, recorded demonstrations of complex problems/annotations and live lessons and discussions.  Teachers will still be setting paper based assignments and anything that is live will be recorded for students to access, should they ‘miss’ the ‘scheduled’ lesson or discussion time.  Please be mindful that in all cases our committed staff are up-skilling very quickly to respond to the needs of the students and we welcome any student or parent feedback in the coming weeks so that we can refine and improve our offer.

Year 9

Letters went out to Year 9 parents about their son/daughter’s option subject confirmations on Friday.  If you have any questions about this please contact kate.warburton@nkacademy.co.uk.  Students will be added to new teams this week.

Years 10 & 12

There has been a tremendous amount of time put in to the face to face in school offer for Year 10 and 12 from Monday 15th June.  Careful thought has been put into the health and safety of everyone in school and the creation of the ‘bubbles’ for both year groups with subject specialist staff allocated to each bubble.  This has taken many days to sort.  If you are a Year 10 or 12 parent and you have not responded to the survey or you have said that you would like online only then it will not be possible at this point to offer a place in school for face to face support in the first two weeks (phase one).  If you would like a place for in school face to face support and haven’t told us yet, please do so urgently so that this can be factored into the planning of phase two which will start this week.  Everyone who has said they would like to access in school face to face support has been allocated one day per week for phase one.  Information about which bubble, the timings of the day, allocated classroom etc will be sent out to parents individually today.  There will need to be a brief response from you to the email you receive.  Details of this will be in the email you are sent later today.  I will also send answers to frequently asked questions as soon as possible.

Online face to face support, for those who have chosen this option will be planned this week.  More details to follow later this week.

Challenge Tasks

Please find attached the challenge tasks for this week.  They can also be found in the parent section of the website under NK at Home.

Years 7 to 9

Teachers put in some data into our system last week about the engagement and progress they believe your son/daughter is making whilst working at home.  We know that this has been more challenging for some than for others and we want to be able to support further.  We will be sharing this information with you shortly.

As always, please let us know if you have any questions and if you have done anything exciting that we can share to make everyone smile.

With very best wishes,
