Daily update 30th March 2020 – I hope you have had a relaxing and safe weekend. I know it will have been a very different weekend to normal for many of you and you will have had to find alternative ways of relaxing and passing the time so we’d love to hear any creative ideas you’ve had.

We are told that further information about how qualifications will be awarded will be issued this week. I will, of course, update you on this when I can.

We continue with our ‘new normal’ this week. A skeleton staff will continue to provide provision in school for our small group of vulnerable children and those children of keyworkers needing to access this. Everyone else continues to work and learn at home. Your children will have been set work this morning for the week. They should try to continue with a routine at home and remember that it is important to take screen and social breaks. We are not expecting them to complete everything in a day. If your child is struggling to meet the deadlines on Microsoft Teams, they can simply let their teacher know that they need more time.

We are still here to help, so if you have any questions or concerns, please do let us know.

With very best wishes,

Jo Tunnicliffe

We did a game of family hide and seek. It’s surprising how many places you can actually hide in the home! Olivia was the champion and won every round!

You can't be here with us - but we are still here for you ... A message from Mrs Tunnicliffe.

As the first full week of our new situation draws to a close I wanted to thank you all again for your support and proactivity in resolving any of the issues with setting up home learning. The response to my video message on Thursday was overwhelming – I think many of you appreciated seeing a familiar face and hearing a voice, rather than just reading another message. I am going to ask some of the staff today to record some messages so that we can send some of those out to you too.

Year 11 and 13 students
I have had some emails from exam boards to let me know that they are working with Ofqual on how they are going to award grades and qualifications this year for Year 11 and 13 students but there is no further information yet. Some Year 11 and 13 students have been in contact with us individually about worries they have about this and about their 6th form places. Please be assured that, if they are following the advice and tasks set by their teachers, then they are doing everything they can do at the moment that is in their control. We are supporting some students to manage their priorities as we gather the information we need. Further information will be shared as we receive it and we will be in touch about 6th form places as soon as we can.

Extension activities
We are in the process of creating and collating ideas for activities for our students to do that are a bit more fun. We thought this would help at weekends and over the Easter holiday period. If you or your son/daughter have any ideas to add to our list, let us know by emailing

Any questions, as always, please ask.

With very best wishes,

Jo Tunnicliffe

Dear Parents and Students

We hope you and your families are all well and staying safe. I have been overwhelmed by the number of messages I have received with thanks and well wishes - thank you.

We had very few children or adults in the academy yesterday - thank you for keeping your children at home where this is possible to help to keep everyone safe. The children that we have had in are settling into a new routine whilst at school and we are all practising social distancing whilst we are here. The children have been fantastic.

For those children working at home, I appreciate that this has been a huge and rapid adjustment to make for them and for other members of your families who are also trying to do the same. We communicated on the phone or via email yesterday to all of the families who had told us that they were experiencing difficulties with Microsoft Teams or Home Access. We have managed to resolve all of the issues you have told us about so far. If you are experiencing difficulties, please do contact us at so that we can support with resolving the issues.

Year 11 & 13 Parents - there is no further update from the government or the exam boards at this time. Some Year 11 parents or students have told us that they need some help with prioritising their workload, so we will be supporting with this issue today. The easiest way for your son/daughter to let us know that they need help with prioritising is for them to use the chat facility on Microsoft Teams and to send a message to me or Mr Bains. You can, of course, contact us on the enquiries@ email address above if you wish to tell us of any issues yourselves.

As always, any questions, please ask.

With very best wishes,

Jo Tunnicliffe

Scam around Free School Meals - Please be aware

Fraudsters are targeting families, emailing parents and carers with messages such as ‘ If your child is entitled to free school meals send your bank details to the school and they will help with funding while the school is closed’. The email contains links for the parents to follow if they want to receive the this funding – these links are fake. This is a scam. We have already been in touch with our FSM families.
Please stay safe, please do keep in contact if you need us.
