NK ACADEMY CURRICULUM
The curriculum at NK Academy has been designed to create opportunities for students to be the best version of themselves. We have designed a curriculum that is academic, and practical and that develops spiritual, moral social and cultural development across all key stages. This broad and balanced approach enables students to be capable in their numeracy and literacy, be great communicators, be empirical in their approach to the physical world, creative in their application of skills, to design, make and build, to be fitter, more skilful and competitive as well as being expressive and confident performers.
The Key Stage 3 Curriculum is centred around English, taught through Literature and Language units, Mathematics taught through the White Rose Mastery Programme and Science taught as individual disciplines of Physics, Biology and Chemistry. Students are prepared for the opportunity to study for the EBACC through History and Geography, complemented by the study of one Modern Foreign Language (German or Spanish) with Religion, Ethics and Philosophy developing considerate, tolerant and compassionate young people. All students study a range of Technology focused on Food Technology and Product Design including the use of Computer Aided Design (CAD). Students learn to code and use IT software. Sport and Fitness is taught through a wide range of sports in PE. The Expressive Arts are delivered through Music, where every student can learn a musical instrument, in Drama students write, direct and perform on the stage, and students will choreograph and perform in their fortnightly Dance lessons.
In Year 9 the students begin their GCSE courses so that they can be well prepared for KS4 and make informed choices about their GCSE or level 2 vocational routes at KS4.
There are three pathways available to students at KS4 which are focussed to cater for all learners. In addition to the KS3 subjects NK Academy also offers Business, Photography, Child Development and Sociology in a mixture of vocational and academic qualifications across the curriculum.
NK Academy prides itself on the broad range of qualifications available in the NK Academy Sixth Form at Level 3 and the majority of NK Academy Year 11 students choose to continue with us. In addition to the subjects offered at KS3 and 4 the academy also offers a blend of A Levels and vocational qualifications including subjects such as Psychology, Criminology, Health and Social Care, Engineering and Music Technology.
