North Kesteven Academy hosted the NKDC Youth Council and officers from North Kesteven District Council on Thursday last week.
The NKDC Youth Council, which consists of students from North Hykeham and Sleaford, met with NKDC officers to discuss issues of local importance for young people in North Kesteven. This was the second of the three meetings scheduled for the year.
The students heard presentations on healthy eating and exercise and environmental issues with a focus on the trending topic – managing plastic waste. Council members agreed to promote a water bottle recycling app in their schools.
They also had the opportunity to complete a questionnaire with the apprentices currently working with North Kesteven District Council.
Assistant Headteacher Karen Jones takes charge of community events at the academy. “We were delighted to host the Youth Council at NK Academy for the third year,” she said.
“Last year we pioneered the Rainworks project with the Youth Council which revealed anti-bullying messages around the school when it rained. These are now being rolled out in many primary schools in the area as a result of the trial here at NK.”
