On the 18th October 2018, NK Academy was proud to host The Second Annual Medical Conference : ‘Launching a Career in Medicine”.
The conference is held in partnership with the Medical Schools Council and the Universities of Leicester, Nottingham and Lincoln who aim to increase numbers in Lincolnshire applying to be medical students ; also to increase the diversity of these students in the future.
Over seventy year twelve students attended , along with teachers from nine schools , including twelve delegates from NK, plus professionals and medical students from the Universities. All of whom presented and ran workshops throughout the day.
As hosts, NK was able to select some year 10 students to attend which was a unique opportunity regionally. These students in particular found this to be a rewarding and valuable experience. A rare chance to rub shoulders with sixth formers and to get a taste of what higher education is like.
Workshops, led by medical students , included ‘Ethical and Clinical Skills’ and one detailing , ‘A Day in the Life of a Student’. This gave real insight from the students themselves on their personal experiences.
