Congratulations to sixth-form student Georgina Adam, who is hoping to be selected for the World Junior Championships this summer after posting a personal best in the 200m sprint at a qualifying event at the weekend.
Georgina (17) had an outstanding day at the Loughborough International athletics event on Saturday (19th May).
Representing Team GB, she achieved the targets required to qualify for the World Junior Championships in Tampere, Finland this July.
She met her target of 23.70s in the 200m race by running a personal best of 23.62s – half a second faster than her next best time this season.
Georgina is now ranked number one in the UK in the 200m and number two in the 100m in the under-20 age group.
“I’m over the moon with my performance,” said Georgina. “It’s great to see that my winter training is now paying off and I am getting faster. I am off to Switzerland now for another race with some big names.”
Headteacher Mr Wilkinson-McKie said: “We’re all so proud of Georgina, who is managing to juggle training and school work and succeeding in both areas.
“She is running as fast as anyone at the moment and we’re really excited about her potential. It will be fantastic to see her flying the flag for her school and her country in Finland this summer.”
