Summer Update

It’s our final term at North Kesteven School before the summer holidays.  There are many events still coming up and lots of work to do! These events include Sports Day, Charity Day, The Lincolnshire Show and much more!

During May half term members of the Student Leadership Team came into school and helped with the maintenance of the Eco Garden.  Our school eco garden is located on the field near the new geography block and students can use it for lessons such as art, science and even dance. The half term session involved planting potatoes, tomatoes, sunflowers and a lot of weeding!! Some students even dressed up as Land Girls during the Eco Garden session to experience what it would be like to be a farm girl during WW2. This was in preparation for our project for the Schools’ Challenge at the Lincolnshire Show.

This year, members of our team will once again be representing North Kesteven School at the Lincolnshire Show.  This year our chosen category is ‘Farming Through The Ages’ and we have chosen to focus on World War Two and the Women’s Land Army.  All the STLT members who regularly attend meetings have taken part in researching and preparing for the event.  On the second day of the Show, a group of judges look around all the groups participating in the Schools’ Challenge and listen and watch a presentation. Each group gets marked on their display, argument, innovation, teamwork, understanding, presentation and research.  In 2015 we were very proud to come third in the secondary school category.  Hopefully this year we will be able to build upon our success and have a great time!

Unfortunately Mr Connor will be leaving us soon.  This is extremely upsetting news to all the students here.  Last year we held a charity event on the last day of school to raise money for NKS Year 7 student Sophie Robinson.  This year we will attempt to raise a lot of money for two charities of Mr Connor’s choosing, the RNIB and Breast Cancer Care.  There will be many stalls and ways for students and staff to celebrate the end of term including teachers in the stocks, a photo booth, a nail bar, sumo wrestling suits, Eskimoo milkshakes, a tombola, cake stall, games room and BBQ.  This will take place on the last day before the summer holidays, 20th July, during lessons 4 & 5. This will be Mr Connor’s last day at North Kesteven School and a way of raising money for charity so please support us!

We hope you have a great summer term!

From everyone in the Student Leadership Team
