February 2016

This term the student leadership team have been busy yet again. Mrs Tunnicliffe has been busy working on classroom displays with our new year 7 and 8 members. This has been a fun and enjoyable task for our younger members of the team working and has developed their teamwork and creativity skills.   It’s also been a really useful for Mrs Tunnicliffe as she has learnt more about the displays that young people like and will learn from.  Remember StLT meetings are on every Friday lunchtime in G17 if you’d like to come and see more about what we do!

Our Year 11s have been extremely busy working on their exam preparation which means that our current StLt leaders will be stepping down at May half term. An interview process was held just before February half term to establish who the next Student Leadership Leaders should be. The candidates were Ella Moir Year 10, Molly Inpkin Year 10, Ellie Jackson Year 9 and Jessica Crean Year 9.  They had to all give a presentation to the group and be interviewed by staff.  It was decided that they should all be appointed and different roles were given to each of the candidates.  These are Chairperson, Deputy Chair, PR & Communications Officer and Fundraising Officer/Teaching & Learning Liaison.  Congratulations to everyone who was involved!

As you may be aware, one of our Year 7 students Sophie Robinson sadly passed away in January after a long battle with a brain tumour. The student leadership team decided to hold a non-uniform day in memory of Sophie which took place on the 12th February. This involved wearing something blue as this was Sophie’s favourite colour. Everybody wearing blue made a donation and in total raised £1362.87 for brain tumour research. Thank you for everybody’s input and involvement!

The school Eco Garden is looking great! During February half term students were busy in there clearing the raised beds and litter.  Onions were also planted. We are looking forward to planting more produce in the Spring!

As many of you know Mr Connor is retiring at the end of the school year. Interviews for the new headteacher were held on the 25th & 26th February and part of the process involved a student panel.  Students from the StLt volunteered and one person from each year group was chosen to take part in this important process.

We hope you are having a good time at school so far this term!
